Born in Roccasecca, Italy and died at the monastery in Sonnino, Italy, of mysterious causes. He was cannonized by Pope John XXII in 1323. He has been ranked with the likes of Ambrose, Augustine, Jerome, and Gregory. Along with Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas has had the greatest influence on the Western Church. His basic theological position was that there are two sources of knowledge: the mysteries of the Christian faith and the truths of human reason.
